Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 12:13 PM on Thursday May 15, 2008 at the Francesco’s Restaurant in Oakland, CA by Sarah Aguilar, Chapter Chairperson of the Central California Chapter of IAPMO.

Introductions

There followed self introductions by the 29 attendees. Chapter Officers present were Sarah Aguilar - Chairperson, Nate Vasquez - Vice Chairperson, Don Wadsworth – Treasurer and Mo Salberg - Secretary.

Old Business

The minutes for March 2008 were approved.

Don Wadsworth gave the treasury report and it was approved unanimously.

Nate Vasquez reported that upcoming calendar events include Tom Corsentino with Zurn doing a presentation in July.

Committee Reports

Nate Vasquez reported on the June 19, 2008 Golf Tourney Fundraiser at Los Lagos Golf Course in San Jose. It starts at 9:00 AM Thursday morning followed by a BBQ lunch and meeting. Fees are $115 per person and $460 per foursome. For more information contact Nate Vasquez at nate@pttc393.org or 408 453-6330.

Don Taylor reported that the Golf Tourney information would be posted on the chapter website along with a map.

New Business

Sarah Aguilar and Bob Adler gave a brief report on the TC Convention in Denver on May 5^th and 6^th, 2008. The TC Committee passed numerous code changes which overrode what the general assembly had voted during the last convention in September of 2007. It is very important that all members try and receive sponsorship and attend the upcoming convention in September in Atlanta so our voices can be heard.

Presentation:

The AB & I Tour began at 9:30 AM at the Oakland Foundry and was hosted by Greg Carr and Kurt Winter- President of AB&I. Kurt gave a brief history of the company and the present day situation of the global steel and iron industry. An excellent video was shown detailing the manufacturing process at AB & I in Oakland. Hard hats, safety glasses and water bottles were provided to all and we were broken up into three groups of ten for the one hour tour. It was hot, dirty and fascinating and populated by a lot of interesting, hardworking and happy employees.

After the tour everyone met at Francesco’s for a delicious lunch and our monthly meeting.

Raffle

We had numerous prizes for the raffle thanks to the generous contributions of Comack Plumbing and County Consumers. Thanks also for the generous donations from Sarah Aguilar of Southland Industries, Mo Salberg with KDS Plumbing, Steve Flores with ICOM, Bob Adler with the City of San Jose and Nathan Vasquez with San Jose Local 393’s Joint Apprenticeship Training Center.

Announcements

The next meeting will be on June 19, 2008 at Los Lagos Golf Clubhouse
at 2995 Tuers Rd., San Jose, CA 95121 at the conclusion of the golf tourney

Adjournment

Chapter Chairperson Sarah Aguilar adjourned the meeting at 1:14 PM.
