CENTRAL CALIFORNIA CHAPTER
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 12:02 PM on Thursday March 17, 2005 at Ricky’s Restaurant in San Leandro, CA. by Marty Cooper, Vice Chairman, of the Central California Chapter of IAPMO. Marty Cooper led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Introductions
Mary Cooper, Chapter Vice Chairman, welcomed the 21 members to the meeting and our two guest speakers from Sioux Chief, John Barber and his associate, Scott Smith. Self-introductions were conducted.
Old Business
The minutes from the meeting of February 17, 2005 were reviewed and accepted.
Brent Hipsher brought up the issue of the continued confusion of PE (Polyethylene yellow gas pipe) Transition Fittings for underground gas pipe installation and their burial depth. There is no code on this subject and the consensus was that one must rely on the manufacturer’s recommendations. There was a request for the company representative of one of the manufacturers, Plex-Co, to come in and give us a presentation and clear up this issue.
Brent Hipsher asked the question whether we can direct bury a PE Gas Manifold. Marty Cooper replied that if there are no valves then it is OK. Brent recommended a Christy box for access if the installation has tracer lines.
Brent Hipsher brought up the issue of the use of CPVC, Section 604.1 of the 2001 California Plumbing Code, and when historical data is required before the Authority Having Jurisdiction can give approval for its use in the State of California.
Brent Hipsher reported the status of the State of California’s adoption of codes. It was voted on by an 8-2 vote to not move forward with adoption of NFPA 5000. It was voted to move forward with the adoption of the IFC (International Fire Code), the IRC (International Residential Code), and the IBC (International Building Code). It was voted to stay with the IAPMO Plumbing and Mechanical Code. The tentative publication date of the California Plumbing and the Mechanical Code is mid 2007.
No other old business to report.
Committee Reports
The treasurer, Dave Ledda, gave the treasurer’s report. It was voted on and
accepted. New Business Marty Cooper gave on report on how many visitors we have had to our
website. There were approximately 4,000 hits in a six week period.
Discussion Bob Adler reported that the City of San Jose will not sponsor him to
go to the Technical Committee meetings in Denver in May of 2005. CCCIAPMO voted last
month to sponsor Bob with the requirement that he get prices for his travel and room,
and then present those figures to the chapter for approval. He will submit a proposed
report in April for the Technical Committee expenses.
Nathan Vasquez announced that Local 393 Training Center will be
hosting a meeting for the ISPE on April 5, 2005 at 4:30-%:30 PM on the future of the
Biopharmaceutical Industry in the Bay Area. Everyone is welcome. Please call the
training Center at (408) 453-6330 for more information and to make your reservation.
Dave Mann brought up the subject of residential ice makers and where
to discharge the waste. Since it must be piped indirectly it was recommended that a
floor sink be installed or that it goes into the tailpiece of a fixture with an air
gap fitting.
The IAPMO yearly conference will be held in Albuquerque this year on
September 24-30, 2005.
